Olompali State Historic Park is a 700-acre park overlooking the Petaluma River and San Pablo Bay. The foundations of two early adobe brick houses are preserved in the park. The Burdell two-story frame house, built in the 1870s serves as the ranger station. Associated ranch buildings include barns, a blacksmith shop, a saltbox house and a ranch superintendent's house.

Pioneer Park has four lighted and recently remodeled tennis courts and vast areas of lush grass. The nine-acre park is located about a mile west of the downtown area and borders a creek to the north and residential areas on the other three sides. A paved walkway meanders through the grounds up to the historic cemetery on the top of a knoll where many of Novato's famous settlers are buried. The park is available for rent and is sometimes used for film nights and festivals.

This is a small preserve of 37 acres. The southern half of the Alto Bowl Preserve is known as “Horse Hill” and is leased for horse pasturing by the Alto Bowl Horseowners Association. The sight of horses grazing peacefully on this grassy hillside has been a landmark for decades.

The Schoolhouse is a rectangular one-story building with simple classical details. It has a symmetrical façade with windows (four over four lights, double-hung wooden sashes) flanking the entrance. This entrance is a double-door with a single light transom above. The building has three bays across the principal façade, and two bays on the side facades. A simple porch is supported by two posts which originally contained simple decorative brackets.

Mission San Rafael Arcángel was founded in 1817 as a medical asistencia of Mission San Francisco de Asís. Today, a replica of the chapel built in 1949 stands next to the current Saint Raphael's Church on the site of the original hospital. Number 20 in the chain of 21 Missions, the chapel is still in use today with daily morning masses.
